The cool weather can be a good way to escape from some of the heat in other parts of the United States during this time. A few attractions, restaurants, and hotels may be closed or have limited services due to lower demand at this time.

Spring:

Flowers are beginning to bloom around town, and it’s getting warmer every day. This is also when trees begin to lose their leaves, so keep that in mind when walking around town. Many festivals (Mardi Gras) happen during this season, so be prepared for crowds.

Some families also use this season to take their children out of school as early as June before returning in August. This is the most popular time for tourists who like to experience all that Mardi Gras offers and are visiting between March and April. If you don’t want crazy crowds, summer isn’t your best bet.

Fall:

While it may be getting colder in the northern part of the United States, fall is still hot and humid in New Orleans. Many of the trees are turning colors, and football season starts! Don’t come to this city during this time unless you want to see how fast you can get sick from the humidity. This is also a popular time for festivals (Southern Decadence) that bring many people into town so expect larger crowds than usual.

New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville.  He named it after France’s King Louis XIV, who was his nephew, a child that never saw nor set foot on America, and whom
